Which regions in England are the most energy efficient?
New data has shown that, on average, the majority of houses in London, South East and the East of England have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘C’ or above. This is based on how energy efficient a house is.
- On average, 45% of homes in London meet the recommended energy rating
- On average, 43% of homes in South East meet the recommended energy rating
- On average, 42% of homes in East of England meet the recommended energy rating
In terms of specific cities:
- On average, 63% of homes in the City of London meet the recommended energy rating
- On average, 58% of homes in the Salford meet the recommended energy rating
- On average, 53% of homes in the Peterborough meet the recommended energy rating
What does this also mean for UK landlords?
Speaking on how these statistics impact Landlord portfolios, Openpropertygroup.com Managing Director, Jason Harris-Cohen said:
“Landlords will seriously have to look at their yields when it comes to profits, margins and financing energy efficiency works. Some of the UK’s biggest cities – Leeds, Birmingham and Brighton – have some of the biggest issues with poor EPC ratings. Once the sums are done, many landlords will find they won’t be able to recoup any eco investments, especially if their local area can’t tolerate increased rents.”
